How beautiful is Ms. Rowland? And to think that at some point she was not feeling her beautiful chocolate skin. The truth is that this is not uncommon in communities of color because darker always seems to be less than in the minds of some. Which is completely ridiculous! But, happily Ms. Kelly as seen the light at the end of that tunnel and decided she will embrace all of her chocolatey goodness! Yes! When we embrace who we are, we experience the greatest shift in life!

Kelly recently revealed on eurweb.com that she endured a brown girl struggle not to long ago. I remember I went through a period where I didn’t embrace my chocolatiness,” she shared. “I didn’t embrace my chocolate lifestyle. Just being a chocolate, lovely, brown-skin girl and being proud of that.” At times she even went as far as trying to avoid being in the sun.

She got the memo that black and brown was beautiful one day when she was in the sun with Tina Knowles, Beyonce’s mother. Tina Knowles said, ‘Are you crazy?’” Kelly recalled. “She said, ‘You are absolutely gorgeous’ and just told me how beautiful I was and how rare chocolate is and how gorgeous the skin is–and all of this stuff. And I was just like ,‘Yeah!’ Like a light went off.”

Finally Kelly began to feel comfortable in her own skin. She said, “You embrace it. You just embrace everything that you are as a woman.”
