Ever feel like you still haven’t made it quite yet? Like you haven’t got to the life you dreamed of as a little girl. Well, guess what? I haven’t made it there yet. I am certain of that. But, as we make our way there we should do it with style, class, and grace. Of course, we will fall and stumble but at least we could do it with a little pep in our step and a desire to take life by its handle and shake things up as we move closer to happy and closer to fabulous living that we have dreamed of. Here are five rules every and any woman should live by on their pursuit:

1.   You Create Your Own Happiness

You create the life you want. You create the happiness you want. Happiness is a choice you make daily not an emotion you feel. It is not something you have to work for. When you wake up every morning, just decide that “today is going to be a great day!” Declare it and it shall be!

2.  What is Fabulous to You May Not be Fabulous to Others

What works for one woman or one couple or one person in the same profession may not work for you and vice versa. If you are younger or just starting a new career or venture in your life, don’t make the mistake of comparing your beginning to someone else’s middle…remember they already started at the bottom and have worked their way up.

3.  Nothing will Work Unless You Do

This is one of my favorite quotes from Maya Angelou. Maya is right! Whatever you want you must work to get it. It will feel so much sweeter when you get the results and rewards of your labor if you know you worked for it. Those who put in the work diligently will be rewarded in due time. It may not be when you want a reward but it will come! Michelle Obama didn’t just wake up one day with everything she has nor do the amazing women you may see in your life. They put in work whether you see it or not!

4. Failure and Roadblocks are Inevitable

Life is all about choices and changes. Both naturally could cause failure or roadblocks. However, the bright side is that failure shows that at least you are trying, and putting in work!

5.  When You Know Better, You Do Better

Another of my favorite Maya quotes. She told this to Oprah once, and Oprah never forgot it. Neither have I. When we are younger and sometimes older we make mistakes, but Maya wants u to remember that on our journeys through life we made a mistake, we must learn from it, and then move on knowing that we now know how to do it right!

Watch Oprah discuss the biggest life lesson Maya taught her…hint: #5!
